Record-breaking GCSE Results

Following last week’s outstanding A level results, we are thrilled with our record-breaking 2019 GCSE results, achieved by our largest-ever cohort  of 139 students. An incredible 30% of results achieved were at the new and highly elusive grade 9, with 57% at grades 9/8 (equivalent to the previous A*), and 76% at 9/8/7 (A*/A). Two students achieved a full house of grade 9s, a quite remarkable feat: Om Kela (eleven grade 9s) and Priya Ganatra (ten grade 9s). Nahbi Odeh, who receives a Maud Elkington Charitable Trust Scholarship, stood out with eight grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7, whilst also excelling as an actor, musician and athlete, competing in the English Schools Athletics Finals in July.

A most impressive eighteen students achieved straight 9/8 grades at GCSE: many congratulations (in addition to Om and Priya) to Freya Astill, Ellen Blaine, Ellie Chandler, Michael Desta, Elliott Green, Georgina Holmes, Sofia Kyriacou, Rohan Magdani, Codrin Moisoi, Annabelle Onions, Akshay Patel, Urvita Roy, Gabriel Samanta, Saurav Thakrar, Antonia Veary and Moritz Wagner-Tsukamoto.

Headmaster John Watson enthused “Our school community has so much to celebrate! We are delighted that our students have excelled academically, achieving a higher proportion of 9/8 (A*) grades than ever before, and know that they have also flourished in so many areas of school life. We congratulate all who have been cheerfully determined to give of their best; exciting times lie ahead."

Some places remain for A level studies in our highly successful and happy Sixth Form. External candidates are invited to consult http://www.lgs-senior.org.uk/sixth-form and to contact our Admissions Department - admissions@leicestergrammar.org.uk - as soon as possible should they wish to explore this possibility.
