Eco Club Climate Change Voice

We are delighted our Year 12 student Will has been selected to attend UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) with the support of UKSSN UK School Sustainability Network and People Power.  Will is a member of our Eco Club, run by Mrs McNally. Many of our Eco Club members have been involved in UKSSN events and projects and Mrs McNally is the lead teacher for the Midlands network facilitating these events such as the online Mock COP conference and action plans for the network.

As part of our Eco Club, Will has been involved in many Zoom calls, written to local politicians and worked with other like-minded students to create change within schools and now affiliated with the National UKSSN. Over the summer Will was involved in discussions about COP26 and what the vision was. He also received training from People Power and few of the group were invited to apply to attend COP26.  The application process was very rigorous and  highly competitive, so it is an honour for Will to have been chosen.

COP26 takes place 1-12 November and Will is attending from 4-8 to part in variety of events including running a stall in the public Green exhibition area and helping with talks relating to the stand. The focus is on climate anxiety and the impact of climate change on young people.

Will enthused:

“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity to make the voice of young people heard on the world stage and engage with as many people as possible to work against Climate Change. I’ve always cared deeply about the environment and this is a crucial time to ensure that politicians protect people from global warming and ensure that global temperatures do not rise to disastrous levels."
