Year 12 and 13 Visit to Jaguar Cars: Design, Production, Efficiency and Marketing

On Thursday 7 February, Lower Sixth DT and Computing students, and Upper Sixth Economics students visited Jaguar Land Rover’s Castle Bromwich manufacturing plant.

We were shown around their factories, seeing the production of the F-Type and XJ. Students learned about the different techniques that JLR use to keep their production process. For example, combination of workers and hi-tech autonomous robots allow the company to operate a ‘just in time’ manufacturing strategy. During the day, students were also given the opportunity to form their own production lines where they made cars out of Lego, and Computing  and DT students were busy programming robotic arms. JLR also provided tailor-made presentations and Q and A sessions. A great day out to see how theory is put into practice.
