Just reward at GCSE

This year’s GCSE cohort has much to celebrate after a very challenging and disrupted period of education. They have worked very hard with their teachers, whether in school or out, face-to-face or via online lessons, and they rose with cheerful determination to a demanding series of assessments when traditional examinations were cancelled. Their efforts have been amply rewarded with outstanding outcomes for many, and with an overall pass rate of 99.6%.

Twenty-one students from a cohort of 112 achieved the highest grade (‘9’) in their ten or more GCSE subjects, of whom six supplemented the standard diet with Further Maths and Italian to achieve a very impressive twelve top grades. ‘Rarer’ subjects such as Classical Greek, Ceramics and German continue to thrive at Leicester Grammar School, ensuring that our students enjoy a wide choice of academic courses. In addition to their studies, this year group have stood out for their commitment to charity fundraising and the support of others during the pandemic.

Headmaster John Watson commented:

“Our students can all be very proud of what they have achieved, working closely with their teachers, supported by their parents and displaying remarkable maturity and dedication during such an uncertain period. They can now look forward confidently to the next stage of their education, benefiting from the many opportunities of our exciting Aspire programme. Our Sixth Form is a very happy and ambitious part of our community, and Leicester Grammar’s reputation for high academic standards and attentive pastoral care has this year attracted more newcomers than ever.”

These excellent GCSE results follow the very high standards achieved by our A level candidates this year: 42% A* grades and 74% A*/A.

There are still places available for certain A level subjects in the Sixth Form, and interested prospective students are advised to consult the website and contact Mrs Natalie Hunt, Head of Marketing and Admissions, without delay (admissions@leicestergrammar.org.uk)
