Heads of School 2021-2022

Rameen Masood

What A levels are you studying?

I am currently studying Biology, Chemistry and Maths A Levels. I am also doing an EPQ analysing whether phenolic compounds in honey could be used as effective medicinal and antimicrobial agents, especially in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

What do you like doing outside of your studies?

Outside of lesson time, I enjoy debating (a good understanding of current affairs should never be underestimated!), writing short articles and painting. I also enjoy playing chess and badminton.

What do you most appreciate about Leicester Grammar School?

I am really grateful for the wealth of opportunities that LGS provides. From Charities Committee to House-led initiatives, these activities are replete with examples of inventiveness, camaraderie and exciting challenges. On an individual level, I have had the opportunity of being involved in a plethora of activities such as senior debating, Young Enterprise, Student Support, STEM leaders, the badminton team and much more. All these activities have taught me unique skills, and I would highly encourage all students to seize the various opportunities on offer, as doing so will make your memories at LGS more special and valuable.

How would you like to make our community even better for our pupils next year?

I think it would be great to start a student-led blog or a monthly magazine of some sort to provide further insight into school life, such as ‘A Life in the day of an A-Level student’, whilst providing a platform for student voice regarding current issues. Encouraging more student-led initiatives such as this will welcome an era of more diverse, enriching and tech-savvy clubs, all helping to strengthen the school spirit!

What you are planning to do when you leave LGS?

When I leave LGS, I am planning to study medicine. I also hope to combine my passion for serving humanity with medical research in neuroscience which would provide avenues of life-long learning and an opportunity to help unravel some of the hidden mysteries of our powerful brain.

What do you like doing outside of your studies?

Outside of studies I enjoy playing sports such as rugby, badminton and volleyball as well as practiing guitar.

What do you most appreciate about Leicester Grammar School?

I appreciate the expertise and personal attention provided by teachers in the school, as it benefits students to have security in knowing their teachers have an extensive understanding of the subjects.

How would you like to make our community even better for our pupils next year?

I would like to better support student voice by encouraging and promoting the use of the Student Council. This will enable pupils in different years to feel heard as well as to see change occurring.

What you are planning to do when you leave LGS?

After A levels I’m planning to defer and take a gap year which will involve travel and work experience. Then afterwards hopefully studying environmental sciences at university.
